āI remember when I was 18, Iād just graduated
from high school and I had walked in my mom's
room and said to her, āI'm gonna go to college
and I might take time off because I want to go
work and make some money. But besides that,
Ma, I feel like I'm a star, like I'm important to the
world. I don't know what it is, but I'm gonna figure
it out.āāĀ
Brooklyn-born-and-raised Lola Brooke knew she
could take the New York music scene by storm,
but she wasnāt expecting to do so on a global scale.
Though sheās been in the game for a while now, the
lyrical powerhouse is only just warming up. Covering
our Autumn/Fall 2023 issue, we spoke to the rapper
a week ahead of Hip-Hopās 50th anniversary where
it felt more women than ever were being celebrated
for their contributions to the genre. From Nicki Minaj
to Lilā Kim and back to Foxy Brown, these are some of
Hip-Hopās finest ā and now, with a new project looming,
Brooke is assuring that she is amongst that list too.Ā
